We want to apologise for ignite disappearing unexpectedly for 4 hours today. Both ignite and the SU Holidays website were offline between 11am and 3pm due to a technical fault at the company who host our domain names.
We won't include any more of the technical ins and outs because even that small amount of technical detail has sent our heads spinning fast into a mixture of boredom and utter incomprehensibility (if that's a word). Needless to say it wasn't our fault!! ;) Which is really what we wanted to communciate. You'll be glad to know that normal service has now resumed.
We are aware this issue probably only inconvenienced Steve and Allison who were desperate to get on because the rest of you were working (hard) at school and they weren't (at school - though obviously working hard!) But just in case we apologise for any inconvenience caused. And if you're still reading this lengthy waffle just because we're still, well, waffling, and you weren't aware anyway of ignite being offline we, er, are sorry if this has disrupted your obliviousness.
:)
Thanks for reading.

ignite will be at Powerpoint Edinburgh's re-launch on Friday 5th February and we will be offering all the secondary-aged pupils there the opportunity to sign up to ignite.
Powerpoint Edinburgh: 'Relaunched' with Pete Greig, Director of Prayer, HTB (of 24/7 fame) Friday 5th February at Destiny Church, Gorgie Road 7:30-10:00pm. The event also includes engaging worship, The Mix - an opportunity to meet others and After Hours - a chilled out cafe environment. Tickets cost £3 on the night.
Powerpoint Edinburgh is a Christian youth event supported by local churches, Scripture Union Scotland and Alpha Scotland, and is open to secondary school aged young people from all backgrounds. The event is in it's 12th year and regularly attended by 400 young people.
This will be the first SU Scotland event outside of SU Holidays and Weekends where we will use our new ignite application process. This involves the S1 to S6 teenager filling out a brief application form and an accreditted SU Team Leader or staff member verifying the information by signing the form as well. Steve Hall, ignite's webmaster, is going to be there signing people up so be sure to introduce yourself to him as he'd love to say hi.We'd love to see loads of you there and we encourage you to take along friends who you'd like to join ignite.

ignite has been successfully upgraded and we want to take the opportunity to highlight some of its new features.
A new improved look Connect front page and profiles. We hope you like. A few more stylistic changes are likely to occur over the next couple of days.
Receive wall post notifications when someone posts a comment on your profile's wall. To activate this go to 'My privacy settings' and click yes to receiving these.
Comment on wall posts. You can now comment on comments left on walls. Just take a look at a wall (the social networking kind) and ahhhh at the 'Comment' link! You'll catch on!
Upload photo galleries to groups. If the group's private these photos will also be private.
Latest group and photo wall posts are now displayed on the Connect front page.
Covers for photo albums automatically selected. It makes the photos page look prettier.
My profile preferences is a new addition to your profile menu that allows you to change the number of activities you see on your profile's activity stream. You can find this link on the 'My Profile' drop-down menu.
Daily Soundbites on ignite's front page. Go to the front page and take a look! You may have to scroll down to see.
Plus more... We just can't think of any more at the moment.
P.S. Everything went without a hitch, except that Steve Hall forgot to upload Connect's submenu images and he changed his mind part way through the day about where some of the new Connect pages will appear so there's four broken links on the Connect home page (those starting with 'View all recent...'). What's a few errors amongst friends?? We'll get those fixed for you tomorrow morning.

ignite will be offline on Wednesday 20th January 2010 to allow us to upgrade the site, particularly the Connect zone. ignite will be down for the whole morning and potentially into the afternoon and we apologise for any inconvenience this short notice causes you.
New changes include the ability to comment on wall posts and upload photos to groups, plus a more prominent search facility for the Connect zone and new pages allowing you to see the latest comments, discussions, group wall posts and photo wall posts.

I just wanted to take the opportunity to highlight four exciting things happening in the early months of 2010 on ignite.
The first is that we are going to be updating the functionality of the Connect zone. New features will include being able to comment on wall posts and upload photos to groups. We are testing and styling these and they should be ready by mid-January.
Secondly, we will be offering new applications to install on your profile. There are a number of applications which we are in the process of testing and I'll let you know more once we've chosen which ones we're going to offer!
Thirdly, we will be starting a new series on ignite looking at Sex & Relationships from a Christian perspective. This will include Engage articles, Delve blog posts and discussion groups. We're going to be taking a fresh approach to this topic and discuss things like what does it mean to be a man or woman made in the image of God and how do different people communicate and receive love.
Fourthly, we will be opening ignite membership in February 2010 to include secondary-aged teenagers attending SU Groups and other events associated with SU Scotland's ministry. In order to keep ignite secure an ignite membership application form has been created that will be filled in by the teenage applicant and then need to be counter-signed by a registered SU leader who knows the applicant. More information will follow.
The only thing left for me to say is Happy New Year!
