The angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire from the middle of a bush. Moses stared in amazement. Though the bush was engulfed in flames, it didn’t burn up. Exodus 3:2
It seemed like just a normal day for Moses as he went out to look after his sheep, but then suddenly God spoke to him from a burning bush and everything changed.
Today might just be a normal day for you but who knows what God has planned? Are you open to him speaking to you in an unexpected way?

Moses protested to God, “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?” Exodus 3:11
Sometimes following God can be more than we bargained for. Generally, it’s not the easy option. He can ask us to do things that are way out of our comfort zone, things that we really think we can’t do.
God sees huge potential in every one of us and he longs to transform us, by his Spirit, into the people he has created us to be.
There is no pre-requisite for God choosing you

The Lord asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak…? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go. I will be with you.” Exodus 4:11-12
Despite Moses’ protests, God knew exactly what he was doing when he chose him.
Moses had been called to a task that was too big for him, but it wasn’t too big for God and Moses had the promise of God’s presence with him.
We have the promise that God is with us too whatever we face today.

Because his heart was hard, Pharaoh refused to let the people leave. Exodus 9:35
It didn’t exactly go smoothly with Pharaoh. It took time… blood… frogs… gnats… flies… dead animals… and boils… hail… locusts… darkness… and even the death of Egypt’s first-born sons. It also took a lot of perseverance from Moses. Pharaoh refused 11 times, but in the end he did let the people go.
God’s plans might not work out as quickly or easily as we expect… but that doesn’t mean they won’t!

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.” Exodus 14:16
This command just seems so ridiculous! “Moses, raise your staff to part the water!” Let’s be real, Moses can’t part the water! There’s just no way…
But Moses has heard from God and chooses to obey; trusting that God will part the sea and that he won’t be left looking like an idiot with a raised staff!
Our obedience to God paves the way for God to move.

Then Moses said to God, “If you don’t personally go with us, don’t make us leave this place…Your presence among us sets your people and me apart from all other people.” Exodus 33:15-16
By now Moses has learned to value God’s presence so much that he refuses to go on without it. He realises that God being with them was what made him and the Israelites different.
Is God’s presence something you value or do you take it for granted? Are you even aware of it?
Does it make you stand out from those who don’t know God?

There has never been another prophet in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face. Deuteronomy 34:10
What a great way to be remembered!
Moses was just an ordinary human being like us who loved spending time with God and learned to trust and obey him. This intimacy, faith and obedience enabled God to release Moses into his full potential as a leader of a nation.
God desires you to be close to him so he can release you too.
