Christian author Brian McLaren says of Christ’s resurrection: “Jesus’ resurrection told [his disciples] that Caesar’s muscle couldn’t conquer God’s vulnerability, that Caesar’s spears couldn’t conquer God’s heart, and that Caesar’s whips and nails and crosses couldn’t overcome God’s way of love and reconciliation.”* Jesus is our hope that sin and oppression and injustice can and will be overcome by God’s love.
