Well, Bond 22 is finally here. It’s one of those films you feel you just have to go and see. I mean, it’s James Bond after all. So I found myself at the cinema and came out with this opinion. To describe Quantum of Solace in a few words, it would be “a high speed chase around the world”. The film kicks off with a car chase, quickly followed by a rooftop chase and a motorboat chase. Then the audience is given a break while Bond goes to a party in Austria and Italy. After that there’s the plane chase (Bond’s plane, of course, falling apart mid-air) before we reach the Bolivian desert for the finale. If you love action, this is the film for you.
However, if you’re like me, and hate watching films you don’t understand, make sure you have watched “Casino Royale” recently. Quantum of Solace picks up literally a few days after the last film ended and if you can’t remember what happened, you’ll almost certainly get lost in the plot. Basically Bond is out for revenge, and this makes the film seem a lot darker than the others. A lot of people die. There are a few other points that degrade this film slightly. The most important is the lack of Q and his gadgets! I was disappointed that there was no missile shooting car or fancy watch that does something cool. On the other hand MI6 does have a pretty fancy computer.
The other bad point was definitely the theme tune. The cinema had just played all the songs from the previous films and as soonas Quantum’s theme tune started, it was obvious that the new song just doesn’t quite meet the standard.
Despite some disappointments, Quantum of Solace is definitely worth a watch. It’s more action packed than some of it predecessorsand has a good plot (if you can follow it). I would give it 3 or 4 out of 5.
