As Christians we find Jesus compelling. His life, death and resurrection convince us he was God in the flesh and that we want to follow him and his way of living at all costs. Through following Jesus, we have come into a relationship with a God who, like Jesus did, we can call our ‘Father in heaven.' In Father God's presence it is like we have come home and we get to experience his love and his healing activity in our lives.

We don't hold our belief that Jesus is the only way to God to be intolerant. Remember, that for Christians, it would probably be easier for us to live within our culture if we didn't think this was the case! We hold it because to do otherwise would betray the teaching of Jesus on this matter. To be true to Jesus we hold to this belief, even in the face of rejection by a society that sees us as intolerant.

Admittedly, I do think that the way some Christians choose to express and act upon this belief increases how intolerant you and others within our society find us. Some Christians sadly get argumentative and even insensitive, believing they have to defend this belief at all costs or hammer "the truth" into you. Holding the belief that Jesus is the only way to God is never an excuse to behave badly and we ask for your forgiveness if you have experienced a Christian like this.

So what about other religions? All religions have obvious differences and it's up to you to engage with these different claims. Even though we disagree with some of the claims of other religions we still feel it is possible to show the people of these religions respect and dignity. We hope that whatever you decide that you will do the same.
